The quest for Kraken tells about the blood system. The visible level is a geographic journey over the Atlantic Ocean with a medical purpose, but also a mourning process after death of close relatives and difficulties to communicate. In the end you discover that the book is about the blood and the blood system, that is bodily functions of human beings.
At the same time the book tells about natural events in our surroundings, the high seas especially, and how human beings treat the planet.
